Excipient Formulation

Meaning

Excipient formulation refers to the careful selection and combination of inactive substances that are mixed with the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) to create a final drug product. These non-therapeutic components are critical for ensuring the stability, manufacturability, and most importantly, the bioavailability and proper release of the hormone or drug within the body. A well-designed formulation optimizes the therapeutic effect by controlling the absorption kinetics and site of action. Clinical efficacy is highly dependent on the excipient choices, particularly for sensitive compounds like hormones.
