Evidence Hierarchy

Meaning

The Evidence Hierarchy is a standardized, ranked system utilized in evidence-based medicine to critically grade the methodological rigor and reliability of clinical research studies, providing a structured guide for clinical decision-making. This framework consistently places systematic reviews and meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) at the highest tier, signifying the most robust level of scientific evidence. Conversely, anecdotal case reports and expert opinions occupy the lower tiers, carrying significantly less weight in the formulation of clinical practice guidelines.
