Estrogen Withdrawal

Meaning

Estrogen withdrawal is the clinical and physiological phenomenon characterized by a rapid or significant decrease in circulating estrogen levels within the body. This abrupt decline is most commonly associated with the natural cessation of ovarian function in menopause, but it can also be induced by surgical oophorectomy or certain endocrine therapies. The resulting hormonal shift precipitates a cascade of systemic symptoms and long-term health changes due to the pervasive role of estrogen in various tissues.
