Estrogen Synthesis

Meaning

Estrogen Synthesis is the specific biochemical pathway, known as steroidogenesis, responsible for the de novo production of the class of steroid hormones collectively known as estrogens, which include estrone, estradiol, and estriol. While primarily occurring in the ovaries in premenopausal women, synthesis also takes place in the adrenal glands, adipose tissue, and testes in both sexes. This process is crucial for regulating the female reproductive cycle, maintaining bone density, and modulating cardiovascular and cognitive function across the lifespan.
