Estrogen Suppression Effects

Meaning

Estrogen Suppression Effects refer to the diverse physiological consequences resulting from the intentional or pathological reduction of circulating and bioavailable estrogen levels below the optimal range. Clinically, this is often an intended outcome of therapeutic interventions, such as using aromatase inhibitors in hormone-sensitive cancers, but it can also occur pathologically due to extreme exercise, malnutrition, or premature ovarian insufficiency. These effects span multiple organ systems, including decreased bone mineral density, increased cardiovascular risk, vaginal atrophy, and vasomotor symptoms like hot flashes.
