Estrogen Sensitivity

Meaning

Estrogen sensitivity is the degree to which a cell or tissue responds to the presence and concentration of estrogen hormones, mediated by the density and activity of its estrogen receptors (ER alpha and ER beta). This physiological characteristic dictates the magnitude of the biological effect that a given estrogen level will elicit in target tissues like bone, breast, or the central nervous system. Clinical management in hormonal health often involves optimizing this sensitivity rather than solely manipulating circulating hormone levels.
