Estrogen Receptors Beta

Meaning

Estrogen Receptor Beta, or ERβ, is one of two primary intracellular receptor proteins that mediate the biological actions of estrogen, a critical steroid hormone. Unlike its counterpart, ERα, this receptor is preferentially expressed in tissues like the ovaries, prostate, colon, and certain brain regions, where it often exerts anti-proliferative and anti-inflammatory effects. Its function is crucial for balancing the effects of estrogen and maintaining tissue health in various organ systems.
