Estrogen Receptor

Meaning

Estrogen receptors are a class of intracellular and membrane-bound proteins that serve as the primary mediators for the biological actions of estrogens, such as estradiol. These receptors, primarily designated as ERα and ERβ, are expressed in numerous tissues, including the breast, uterus, bone, brain, and cardiovascular system. The specific ratio and activation state of these receptor subtypes determine the net physiological effect of circulating estrogen levels.
