Estrogen Receptor Alpha

Meaning

Estrogen Receptor Alpha (ERα) is a primary intracellular protein that acts as a ligand-activated transcription factor, mediating many of the classical genomic effects of the hormone estradiol. This receptor is highly expressed in tissues such as the breast, uterus, bone, and liver, regulating gene expression essential for reproductive function and metabolic homeostasis. Clinically, the expression and function of ERα are critical biomarkers, particularly in the management of hormone-sensitive malignancies.
