Estrogen Receptor Alpha (ESR1)

Meaning

Estrogen Receptor Alpha, or ESR1, is one of two principal nuclear receptor proteins that serve as the primary mediators for the diverse biological actions of the steroid hormone estrogen within target cells. This specific receptor subtype is highly expressed in proliferative tissues, including the breast, uterus, liver, and specific nuclei of the hypothalamus. Activation of ESR1 is fundamentally linked to signaling pathways that drive cellular growth, differentiation, and development throughout the human body.
