Estrogen Receptor Alpha (ERα)

Meaning

Estrogen Receptor Alpha, abbreviated as ERα, is one of two primary intracellular nuclear receptor proteins that mediate the biological actions of the steroid hormone estrogen. It functions as a ligand-activated transcription factor, meaning it must bind to estrogen before it can regulate gene expression. ERα is highly expressed in tissues like the uterus, mammary glands, and bone, where it mediates classic proliferative and metabolic effects of estrogen.
