Estrogen Progesterone Therapy

Meaning

Estrogen Progesterone Therapy, often abbreviated as EPT, is a specific regimen of hormone replacement therapy involving the combined, simultaneous administration of an estrogen and a progestogen, prescribed to women who still possess a uterus. The estrogen component is intended to alleviate systemic symptoms of deficiency, such as hot flashes and mood changes, and to protect bone density. Crucially, the progestogen component is included to counteract the proliferative effect of estrogen on the endometrium, thereby preventing endometrial hyperplasia and malignancy.
