Estrogen-Only Therapy

Meaning

Estrogen-Only Therapy (ET) is a form of hormone replacement used exclusively for women who have undergone a hysterectomy and thus no longer have a uterus. This therapeutic regimen involves administering estrogen alone to alleviate menopausal symptoms, such as hot flashes and vaginal atrophy, and to mitigate long-term health risks like osteoporosis. The absence of a progestogen component is appropriate because the primary clinical risk of unopposed estrogen, endometrial hyperplasia and cancer, is eliminated.
