Estrogen Deprivation

Meaning

Estrogen deprivation describes a clinical state characterized by a significant, pathologically low level of circulating estrogen hormones, specifically estradiol, in the body. This condition is most commonly observed following menopause, bilateral oophorectomy, or as a result of certain endocrine therapies that suppress ovarian or peripheral estrogen production. The resultant hormonal deficit can lead to a cascade of physiological changes affecting bone density, cardiovascular health, and neurocognitive function.
