Estrogen Conversion

Meaning

Estrogen conversion refers to the biochemical processes through which the body synthesizes various forms of estrogen from precursor hormones or interconverts existing estrogen types. This includes the irreversible transformation of androgens, such as testosterone and androstenedione, into estrogens like estradiol and estrone, primarily catalyzed by the aromatase enzyme. It also encompasses the reversible metabolic shifts between estrone and estradiol, which are facilitated by specific 17-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase enzymes.
