Estradiol Fluctuation

Meaning

Estradiol Fluctuation refers to the pronounced and often irregular oscillations in the circulating levels of 17β-estradiol (E2), the most potent endogenous estrogen. This hormonal instability is a defining physiological characteristic of the perimenopausal transition, preceding the consistently low E2 levels of postmenopause. Clinically, these wide, erratic swings are strongly implicated in the genesis and severity of vasomotor symptoms, mood disturbances, and increased sensitivity to psychological stress.
