Estradiol Dominance

Meaning

Estradiol Dominance is a clinical term describing a state of hormonal imbalance where the effects of the primary estrogen, estradiol (E2), are functionally excessive relative to the counterbalancing effects of progesterone in the body. This condition does not necessarily imply high absolute estradiol levels but rather a critical deficiency or functional inadequacy of progesterone to mitigate estrogen’s proliferative actions. It is a common presentation in perimenopause and can significantly impact reproductive, mood, and metabolic health.
