Estradiol Decline

Meaning

The progressive reduction in the circulating levels of 17-beta estradiol, the most potent naturally occurring estrogen, a physiological process primarily associated with the peri- and post-menopausal transition in women. This decline is a key endocrine event signaling the cessation of ovarian follicular function and is directly responsible for many of the classic climacteric symptoms, including vasomotor instability and genitourinary syndrome of menopause. Monitoring this decline and its symptomatic sequelae guides clinical decisions regarding hormone replacement therapy and overall wellness planning.
