Estradiol Aromatization Balance

Meaning

This term refers to the critical homeostatic equilibrium between the production of estradiol (E2), the primary and most potent estrogen, and its precursor, testosterone, via the enzyme aromatase. Maintaining this balance is essential for both male and female physiology, as excessive aromatization can lead to estrogen dominance symptoms, while insufficient conversion may impair bone density and cognitive function. The clinical objective is to manage the enzymatic activity to ensure optimal, not excessive, E2 levels relative to the circulating androgens.
