ESR2 Polymorphism

Meaning

ESR2 polymorphism refers to variations in the DNA sequence of the Estrogen Receptor Beta (ESR2) gene, which encodes the estrogen receptor beta protein. These common genetic variations, or single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), can influence the expression, stability, or function of the receptor protein. Since estrogen receptor beta mediates many of estrogen’s non-reproductive effects, these polymorphisms are clinically significant for individual differences in response to estrogen, bone density, cardiovascular health, and neurocognitive function. Understanding an individual’s ESR2 genotype can inform personalized hormonal health strategies.
