Erythropoietin Synthesis

Meaning

Erythropoietin Synthesis refers to the specific biological process of manufacturing and secreting the glycoprotein hormone erythropoietin (EPO), which is the principal hormonal regulator of red blood cell production. This synthesis occurs predominantly in specialized peritubular fibroblasts within the renal cortex of the kidneys. The rate of production is exquisitely sensitive to changes in tissue oxygen levels.
