Erythropoietin Signaling

Meaning

Erythropoietin Signaling is the specific biological cascade initiated by the binding of the hormone erythropoietin (EPO) to its cognate receptor, the Erythropoietin Receptor (EPOR), on the surface of erythroid progenitor cells in the bone marrow. This signaling pathway is the principal regulator of erythropoiesis, the production of red blood cells. Activation promotes the survival, proliferation, and differentiation of these precursor cells, ensuring adequate oxygen-carrying capacity in the blood.
