ERalpha and ERbeta Receptors

Meaning

ERalpha and ERbeta Receptors, formally known as Estrogen Receptor alpha (ERα) and Estrogen Receptor beta (ERβ), are two distinct intracellular proteins that mediate the biological actions of the hormone estrogen throughout the body. These receptors belong to the nuclear receptor superfamily and act as ligand-activated transcription factors. The differential distribution and activation of these two subtypes determine the specific tissue response to estrogen, influencing everything from bone density to cardiovascular health.
