ER+ Breast Cancer

Meaning

ER+ Breast Cancer refers to a subtype of breast malignancy where the cancer cells possess Estrogen Receptors (ER) on their surface or within their cytoplasm. This positive receptor status indicates that the growth and proliferation of these cancer cells are significantly driven or stimulated by the presence of the hormone estrogen. Clinically, identifying a tumor as ER-positive is a critical step, as it dictates the use of endocrine therapies aimed at blocking the estrogen signal or reducing systemic estrogen levels. This hormonal dependence makes it a distinct and generally more treatable category of breast cancer.
