ERβ

Meaning

ERβ, or Estrogen Receptor Beta, is one of the two main intracellular receptors for the sex hormone estrogen, encoded by the ESR2 gene. It is a member of the nuclear receptor superfamily and is widely expressed in tissues such as the prostate, brain, bone, cardiovascular system, and ovaries. ERβ often exerts biological effects that oppose or modulate those of Estrogen Receptor Alpha (ERα), playing a crucial role in regulating cell differentiation and inhibiting proliferation in many tissues.
