Epididymosomes

Meaning

Epididymosomes are specialized small extracellular vesicles originating from the epididymis, a coiled tube located behind the testis. These vesicles encapsulate and transport a diverse cargo of proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids, particularly various RNA species, to recipient cells. Their primary function involves the critical delivery of these molecular components to maturing spermatozoa as they transit through the epididymal lumen, thereby facilitating essential post-testicular modifications.
