Environmental Exposome

Meaning

The environmental exposome represents the totality of environmental exposures an individual experiences from conception onward, encompassing diet, lifestyle, geographical location, and all chemical and biological agents. This concept moves beyond single-factor toxicology to consider the cumulative, dynamic, and interactive impact of these non-genetic factors on human health and the endocrine system. Clinically, understanding an individual’s exposome is crucial because it provides a comprehensive context for how external stressors and endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) modulate hormonal balance, cellular function, and disease susceptibility over a lifetime.
