eNOS Activation

Meaning

eNOS activation refers to the physiological process of stimulating the enzyme endothelial Nitric Oxide Synthase, which is critically important for generating nitric oxide (NO) within the endothelial cells lining the blood vessels. Nitric oxide acts as a potent, local vasodilator and an essential signaling molecule that maintains vascular tone, regulates blood pressure, and inhibits platelet aggregation and leukocyte adhesion. Clinically, robust eNOS activity is fundamental for cardiovascular health, and its dysfunction is implicated in conditions like hypertension, atherosclerosis, and endothelial aging.
