Energy Density

Meaning

Energy Density, in the context of human physiology and nutrition, refers to the concentration of caloric energy within a given mass or volume of food, typically expressed as kilocalories per gram or per ounce. From a clinical perspective, managing the energy density of the diet is a critical strategy for weight management and metabolic health, as low-energy-density foods promote satiety with fewer calories. Hormonal balance, particularly the regulation of ghrelin and leptin, is intrinsically linked to the body’s processing and signaling related to this metric.
