Endotoxin Risk

Meaning

Endotoxin risk refers to the potential for lipopolysaccharide, a component of Gram-negative bacterial cell walls, to enter systemic circulation and trigger an adverse physiological response. This substance, often termed endotoxin, can originate from the gut microbiome or external sources, posing a significant challenge to host homeostasis when present in excess or when intestinal barrier integrity is compromised.
