Endothelial Progenitor Cells

Meaning

Endothelial Progenitor Cells (EPCs) are specialized, bone marrow-derived stem cells possessing the capacity to differentiate into mature endothelial cells, which form the inner lining of blood vessels. These circulating cells are crucial mediators of neovascularization and the repair of damaged vasculature. Maintaining adequate EPC mobilization is a biomarker of vascular health.
