Endothelial Health

Meaning

Endothelial health refers to the optimal structural integrity and functional capacity of the endothelium, which is the single layer of cells lining the interior surface of all blood vessels, including arteries, veins, and capillaries. A healthy endothelium is crucial for maintaining vascular tone, regulating blood pressure, preventing thrombosis, and controlling the passage of substances into and out of the bloodstream. Its dysfunction is a foundational event in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases, including atherosclerosis and hypertension.
