Endosome

Meaning

An endosome is a membrane-bound organelle found within the cytoplasm of most eukaryotic cells, serving as a sorting station for material brought into the cell via endocytosis. These vesicular compartments play a crucial role in cellular trafficking, receiving and processing internalized molecules, including nutrients, signaling receptors, and hormones bound to their receptors. They are essential intermediates in the pathway leading to recycling, degradation, or transport to other cellular locations.
