Endometrial Protection Progesterone

Meaning

The essential clinical practice of administering progesterone to women receiving estrogen replacement therapy to counteract the proliferative effects of estrogen on the uterine lining (endometrium). This intervention is mandatory for women with an intact uterus, as unopposed estrogen can significantly increase the risk of endometrial hyperplasia and carcinoma. Progesterone serves a vital protective role by inducing secretory changes and promoting shedding of the lining.
