Endometrial Hyperplasia

Meaning

Endometrial hyperplasia is a clinical condition characterized by the abnormal proliferation and thickening of the endometrium, the inner lining of the uterus. This excessive growth is typically a result of prolonged, unopposed stimulation by estrogen without adequate counter-regulation by progesterone. While not malignant itself, it is a significant clinical concern because certain types of hyperplasia, particularly those with atypia, are considered precursors to endometrial carcinoma. Clinical management focuses on diagnosis via biopsy and therapeutic strategies aimed at re-establishing hormonal balance, often with progestin therapy.
