Endometrial Cancer Risk PCOS

Meaning

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) significantly elevates the likelihood of developing endometrial cancer, a malignancy of the uterine lining. This increased risk stems from chronic anovulation, a hallmark of PCOS, which leads to prolonged, unopposed estrogen exposure to the endometrium. Such persistent hormonal stimulation without adequate progesterone-induced shedding can promote abnormal cellular proliferation, eventually progressing from endometrial hyperplasia to carcinoma.
