Endometrial Cancer Risk

Meaning

Endometrial cancer risk refers to the probability of developing malignant neoplasia originating from the endometrium, the inner lining of the uterus. This risk is strongly and positively correlated with prolonged, unopposed exposure to estrogen, which stimulates endometrial cell proliferation without the counterbalancing effects of progesterone. Clinical assessment of this risk is paramount in women receiving hormone replacement therapy or those with conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or obesity, where endogenous estrogen levels are often elevated. Mitigating this risk is a core objective of gynecological endocrinology.
