Endometrial Atrophy

Meaning

Endometrial Atrophy is a clinical condition characterized by the progressive thinning and regression of the endometrium, the specialized tissue lining the uterus, due to prolonged lack of estrogenic stimulation. This state is most commonly observed in postmenopausal women, where ovarian estrogen production has significantly and naturally decreased, or in individuals undergoing specific hormone suppression therapies. While often asymptomatic and considered benign, it can sometimes present clinically with symptoms like postmenopausal bleeding, which is a symptom that warrants immediate and thorough medical evaluation to rule out malignancy.
