Endogenous Secretion

Meaning

Endogenous Secretion refers to the physiological process by which a substance, such as a hormone, enzyme, or peptide, is synthesized and released from a cell or gland within the organism itself. This process is distinct from the introduction of substances from an external source, which is termed exogenous administration. The maintenance of endogenous secretion, particularly of key hormones, is critical for the body’s homeostatic regulatory loops and is often a therapeutic goal to preserve natural physiological function. It is a fundamental concept in endocrinology.
