Endogenous Release

Meaning

Endogenous release refers to the natural, internal biological process where a substance, such as a hormone, peptide, or neurotransmitter, is synthesized, stored, and subsequently secreted from cells or tissues that originate from within the body. This intrinsic process is fundamentally distinct from the introduction of external, or exogenous, substances. In endocrinology, the concept is central to understanding the body’s innate capacity for self-regulation and maintaining hormonal homeostasis, which is often the primary target for therapeutic interventions.
