Endogenous Hormone Cycling

Meaning

Endogenous hormone cycling refers to the natural, intrinsically regulated fluctuations and rhythms in the secretion, concentration, and metabolism of hormones produced within the body. This encompasses the various time scales of hormonal variation, including the ultradian (less than 24 hours, like pulsatile growth hormone release), diurnal (24-hour, like cortisol), and infradian (longer than 24 hours, like the female menstrual cycle). Maintaining the integrity and amplitude of these natural cycles is a fundamental clinical goal for preserving reproductive, metabolic, and overall endocrine health throughout the lifespan. Disruptions to this cycling can cascade into systemic dysregulation.
