Endogenous Hormone

Meaning

An endogenous hormone is any signaling molecule that is naturally synthesized and secreted by the glands or tissues located within the human body. These biological messengers are distinctly separate from exogenous hormones, which are those introduced from an external source, such as through medication. Endogenous hormones serve as the fundamental, intrinsic regulators of nearly all physiological processes, including metabolism, reproduction, growth, and mood.
