Endogenous Antioxidant

Meaning

An endogenous antioxidant is a molecule naturally produced within the human body that functions to neutralize reactive oxygen species (ROS) and prevent oxidative damage to cellular components. These internally generated compounds, such as glutathione, catalase, and superoxide dismutase, are essential for maintaining cellular integrity and protecting DNA, proteins, and lipids from free radical stress. They form the body’s primary defense system against chronic cellular degradation.
