Endogenous Anabolism

Meaning

The naturally occurring, internal metabolic process within the body responsible for synthesizing complex molecules, such as proteins and nucleic acids, from simpler precursors, specifically referring to the building up of tissues like skeletal muscle. This process is the counterpoint to catabolism and is fundamentally regulated by anabolic hormones like testosterone, growth hormone, and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). Promoting robust endogenous anabolism is crucial for maintaining muscle mass, bone density, and overall tissue repair, particularly as individuals age.
