Endocrine Recovery

Meaning

The physiological process of restoring optimal, autonomous function to one or more components of the endocrine system following a period of suppression, significant dysfunction, or therapeutic intervention that temporarily halted natural hormone production. This clinical goal often necessitates the careful and gradual withdrawal of exogenous hormone administration, such as certain androgens or corticosteroids, to allow the body’s native negative feedback mechanisms to fully reactivate. Successful recovery is clinically defined by the sustained return of endogenous hormone levels to a healthy, self-regulating baseline.
