Endocrine-Brain Axis

Meaning

The Endocrine-Brain Axis describes the bidirectional communication network linking the endocrine system (hormone production) with the central nervous system (neural processing and regulation). This axis governs complex functions including stress response, metabolism, mood regulation, and reproductive cycling through the exchange of chemical signals. It is the primary system through which internal physiological status informs and is informed by cognitive and emotional states. Disruptions here underlie numerous systemic dysfunctions.
