Endocrine Axis Perturbation

Meaning

A clinical state defined by a disruption or deviation from the normal, tightly regulated communication and feedback loops within one of the body’s primary neuroendocrine systems, such as the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) or Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal (HPG) axis. This perturbation signifies an imbalance in hormone secretion, transport, or receptor sensitivity, moving the system away from its homeostatic set point. It is a precursor to overt endocrine disease and a key indicator of physiological stress.
