Embryo Quality

Meaning

Embryo quality is a composite clinical assessment used in assisted reproductive technology (ART) to evaluate the developmental potential of an embryo, which is a key determinant of successful implantation and pregnancy. This assessment involves morphological grading based on cell number, blastomere symmetry, fragmentation, and the appearance of the inner cell mass and trophectoderm in blastocysts. While morphological assessment provides important guidance, it does not fully predict genetic integrity.
