ELITE-Cog Study

Meaning

The ELITE-Cog Study is the cognitive ancillary trial of the Early versus Late Intervention Trial with Estradiol, a major randomized, placebo-controlled clinical investigation. The primary objective was to test the “critical window” hypothesis regarding the effect of menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) timing on cognitive function. It evaluated whether starting oral estradiol soon after menopause yields different cognitive outcomes compared to starting it many years later. The study assessed multiple domains of cognitive performance in postmenopausal women.
