Electron Transport Chain

Meaning

The Electron Transport Chain, or ETC, is the final stage of aerobic cellular respiration, situated within the inner mitochondrial membrane, where the majority of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is synthesized. This process is fundamental to cellular energy currency production, which directly supports all anabolic processes, including hormone synthesis and receptor maintenance. Dysfunction here impairs the energetic foundation of endocrine signaling.
